What Is Pro Se Divorce?
Pro Se litigation is a process where an individual chooses to represent oneself in a court proceeding without the assistance of an attorney. There are many reasons people choose not to hire an attorney, but perhaps the greatest is the high cost an attorney might charge.
There is a better way!
Why not hire an attorney only to help you accomplish just certain parts of your divorce. In this way you continue to remain fully in charge and responsible for your case, saving you money, while paying for only those things you may find difficult to do on your own.
How does it work?
First, you find yourself in need of a divorce. Yet, for whatever reason you may have, your biggest concern is whether you can afford the price of an attorney or whether your spouse has one and you cannot. Even if you could afford the attorney, you may choose to save some money and go it on your own. In any case, you find yourself struggling with a particular portion of your case. What do you do? Courts and judges still expect you to conduct your divorce as if you were an attorney yourself.
That's where our law firm comes in handy. Thompson Legal Assistance provides help by providing unbundled legal services.
Unbundled Legal Services allow clients to remain responsible for portions of their legal needs while using limited attorney assistance for those projects that a client may feel they cannot handle on their own. In essence, a client only hires the attorney to complete those projects for which the client desires; the client represents him or herself in all other aspects. The immediate benefit is a reduction in legal costs and expenses.
Say for example, you are having difficulty creating documents or filing them with the Court, you could hire our firm to produce those documents piecemeal and pay a small fee on a pay per use basis. What if you need help in researching a legal issue or problem, our firm can do that too. Or perhaps you just need an attorney to talk to and point you in the right direction. The point is, you only pay for those services you request and handle the rest on your own. Thus, the client remains a pro se (self-represented) individual, using an attorney to help only when needed.
